Being a student of political science I must express my gratitude to the beloved general/president/chief executive (maybe he’ll end up with 99 names by the time he is done with us) for teaching me what no instructor ever could. That democracy is a process carefully divided into three phases, the third of which must begin with a state of emergency- else all the good work of the preceding phases will be wasted.
However this is not all, he even made us realize the lesser mortals that we are by asking the west not to expect of us the kind of civil liberties and rights that we
have all of a sudden come to expect, after he so gloriously gave us the ungrateful media, which also we thought happened to be our birth right.
Credit to the west and its chief patron the U.S. for duly recognizing this fact and thus tacitly encouraging the commander with such timid criticism, despite him so cruelly trashing Abraham Lincoln’s hard work.
Shame on our political parties- the conservative ones of course- for putting the country in a serious law and order situation while the liberal hands (Benazir and the ever so present Quaid) astutely wait for the democratic transition to complete, and of course shame on the chief justice for attending that wedding!
What can be said of the country and the plight of its people (who must be in great health because there are some 7 crore cell phones for them, don’t bother for the tomatoes though).
One thing is for sure: while both Ayub and Zia-ul-Haq would be saluting Musharaf, perhaps even prostrating before him, the mutilated corpse of both Lincoln and Z.A. Bhutto or at least what’s left of them will be twisting and turning for the acts of their children!
